Rookie Blue Leads the Pack of Exciting New Canadian Series

In an extraordinary milestone for Canadian television Global TV has recently announced that the homegrown hit Rookie Blue has been renewed for Season 4. In the world of Canadian original TV, renewal for a fourth season is nearly unprecedented territory. The renewal of Rookie Blue may not be a surprise to many; the series boasts loyal fans both in Canada and internationally and had over 1.6 million fans tune in to the Season three premiere.

Rookie Blue isn't the only Canadian show drawing attention worldwide. Many exciting new Canadian original series are either forging new ground in the television world or creating their own stamp of Canadianess on international franchises. Whether it's reality series about being fabulous, historical dramas with girl power to spare, or science fiction shows that pass the test under the geekiest scrutiny, Canadian television is hitting the ground running. In recognition of Rookie Blue's stellar performance,  and our country's upcoming 145th birthday, it seems like a good time to take a look at successful Canadian series loved by fans all over the nation.

 

Rookie Blue Season 3 premiered to an audience of 1.6 million viewers.  

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing for the Rookie Blue cops in their third year. As the new cops adjust to weightier roles on the force they grapple with how their jobs shape their identity and life as a whole. In Season four, we can expect the stakes to be even higher. A witty and intelligently written series.

The Real Housewives of Vancouver has hit the ground running.  

The Real Housewives of Vancouver has been one of this year's most buzzed about new series. It's a wild ride into the world of some of Vancouver's wealthiest women - an international franchise with a distinctly Canadian twist. A fun series that throws a wrench at anyone who still likes to make the joke that all Canadians live in log cabins and hunt moose for a living.

Bomb Girls has been renewed for a second season. 

A Canadian original historical drama following the lives of four women coming to terms with their new found independence sounds like a bit of a crapshoot in an industry driven by cheap thrills. So, it was a nice surprise when Global TV's Bomb Girls managed to captivate and inspire so many loyal viewers. But Bomb Girls finds that perfect balance between engaging stories and historical relevance which makes a series like this work. With production of Season two already underway, Bomb Girls is bound to dig even deeper into the world of four women who must fight against society in order to find themselves.

Lost Girl has a small army of extremely loyal fans, 

It seems like the Canadian television engine has some girl power igniting it. Showcase is featuring two wildly popular Canadian originals that feature strong female leads. Leading the way is the astoundingly popular Lost Girl, which has been renewed for a third season and whose fans are about as loyal as fans can get. Following in Lost Girl's footsteps, the brand new science-fiction series Continuum boasted more viewers tuning in to the series premiere than any other show in Showcase history.

Big Brother Canada will air on Slice this winter.  

With so many great series in motion it's timely that Canada will be taking its next step towards leading the way in the global village. Shooting begins early in 2013 for Big Brother Canada, and Canada will join countries from Albania to Israel in participating in the Big Brother franchise.

Season 14 of Big Brother will be airing on Global starting July 12
